In the fall of 2025, Ukraine will implement basic military training for men aged 18 to 25. Certain categories of citizens will be exempt from undergoing this training.
One of the primary reasons for exemption is unfitness for military service. This was announced by the Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Brigadier General of Justice Sergey Melnik, during a telethon, as reported by RBK-Ukraine.
According to Melnik, those exempt from basic military training will include:
It is important to note that basic military training is set to replace the conscription service that has been abolished. Every Ukrainian aged 18 to 25 will be able to choose the period for undergoing basic military training independently, but it must be completed by the age of 24.
Students who fail to meet this requirement may be expelled from their educational institution as per the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers.
Participation in basic military training is voluntary for women. However, the Verkhovna Rada has already passed a bill that stipulates women who undergo basic military training will be registered for military service. This document will take effect after the president's signature.
Previously, "Telegraph" reported on whether students would be expelled if they failed the military training exam at university. Basic military training will consist of 300 hours of theoretical and practical classes.
