This winter, the frontline Zaporizhzhia region may experience a complete lack of electricity. Residents are being urged to prepare for the worst-case scenario.
This statement was made by the head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, Ivan Fedorov, during a telethon. According to him, authorities are already procuring generators and cogeneration units.
"I tell everyone that we must prepare for the possibility of having no electricity at all. It may not be pleasant. Because we are dealing with such categorical matters. But let’s prepare for the worst. If it turns out better, that would be great," – said Fedorov.
He predicts that in Zaporizhzhia there may be no centralized power supply for water pumping stations this winter. In order to ensure heating in the region, all major boiler houses in Zaporizhzhia and the surrounding area are purchasing cogeneration units. The first ones are expected to be operational by December.
"Why is there a delay and why wasn't this done before the heating season? Because we understand that Ukraine is a vast country and today we have an enormous demand for cogeneration units. No manufacturing facility in the world can meet the needs of such a large state as Ukraine. Also, we lack funds," — explained the head of the regional administration.
Fedorov emphasized that to address this issue, Ukraine is reaching out to partners for assistance in acquiring these units.
"Our partners are financing us, they have procured them for us. And by November 15, the first cogeneration units will be in Zaporizhzhia. We hope that the connection will take up to a month. So we will reserve this," — he clarified.
As for regular generators, both schools and hospitals are already equipped with generators capable of providing electricity for educational activities as well as medical assistance.
Recall that earlier, "Telegraph" reported on whether Ukraine will experience power outages this winter, depending on the situation with shelling.
