Vladimir Pozner is a renowned Russian journalist, propagandist, television presenter, and political commentator. Recently, he has disappeared from television screens and initially refrained from commenting on Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

"Telegraf" sought to uncover what is known about Vladimir Pozner, what he is currently doing, and what he has said about the war.

Vladimir Pozner — Where and Why He Disappeared

Vladimir Pozner is a well-known journalist and television host recognized not only in Russia but also in Ukraine, Europe, and America. He was born on April 1, 1934, in Paris to a Jewish family, and he is now 90 years old. He was once a Soviet propagandist, worked in both Russian and American journalism, and is also known as a writer.

Since November 2008, Vladimir Pozner's authorial television program titled "Pozner" aired on the Russian state channel First Channel. However, after February 24, 2022, the program ceased broadcasting. According to the journalist himself, the channel's management informed him that starting from February 24, 2022, First Channel would become an information channel and remain so until the end of the so-called "special operation." This is why his program and several others would not air.

However, by the fall of 2024, Pozner returned to First Channel, albeit not on a permanent basis. The channel aired Pozner's series "Turkish Notebook," which he filmed about his travels in Turkey on commission from First Channel.

It is worth noting that Vladimir Pozner continues to publicly comment on certain social and political events and news. He does this through his personal Telegram channel "Pozner Online" and also has a website with the same name. This is notable considering he is already 90 years old. Furthermore, the journalist stated that he was invited to work in the West but declined due to hints that he would have to "say what is needed."

What Pozner Said About the War in Ukraine

Since the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine, Vladimir Pozner adopted a silent stance and did not comment on Russia's invasion. However, later during an online meeting at the American Ubiquity University, the journalist claimed that "the USA bears responsibility for what is happening in Ukraine, as they behaved incorrectly towards Russia after the collapse of the USSR."

Moreover, Pozner attempted to absolve Putin, asserting that he is not insane and knows exactly what he is doing. While Pozner claims not to support the war, he also understands why it began. According to him, due to the erroneous policies of the USA, "a vast window of opportunity that existed for 30 years has closed."
