Former Deputy Attorney General Dmitry Verbitsky, who was dismissed from his position in July of last year, has decided to engage in philanthropy. He is implementing his initiatives through a charitable foundation established by an Odessa lawyer, along with his partner Kristina Ilnitskaya. The purchase of real estate worth over a million dollars and a car valued at $100,000 has led to his dismissal from the Prosecutor General's Office and the initiation of a criminal investigation by NABU.
Verbitsky himself stated this information.
News about the new status of the former Deputy Attorney General has already spread across social media, with several bloggers posting messages expressing admiration for Verbitsky's charitable initiatives.
It is worth noting that to implement his charitable initiatives, Dmitry Verbitsky did not establish his own charitable foundation but utilized an already existing one – the Charitable Organization "KD". This foundation was founded in 2015 by Odessa lawyer Dmitry Keshkentiy. Initially named "KD" after the founder's initials, it changed its name to "Kraїna Dobra" in November, with Verbitsky becoming a signatory and founder on November 27, 2024.
As the first recipients of his charitable assistance, the ex-Deputy Attorney General has chosen internally displaced persons in the Odessa region. The foundation also plans to provide free legal aid to veterans and distribute free medical certificates for treatment at an Odessa hospital.
According to Verbitsky's statements, he is engaged in volunteer work alongside his partner, Kristina Ilnitskaya. She was the main reason for the ex-Deputy Attorney General's dismissal: as established by journalists from the investigative project "Schemes," in 2024, she acquired elite property worth over a million dollars, including a 240 sq. m house in the upscale cottage community "Konik" in Kyiv, valued at 1.2 million dollars, and a 2023 Porsche Macan T worth around 100 thousand dollars.
Dmitry Verbitsky did not include information about Ilnitskaya's property in his declaration, arguing that their relationship did not have an official family status. Based on this information, a service investigation was initiated, and on July 1, 2024, Prosecutor General Andrey Kostin signed an order for Verbitsky's resignation at his own request.
Subsequently, the NABU identified signs of the acquisition of unjustified assets by Dmitry Verbitsky amounting to an additional 29 million hryvnias. The National Agency submitted its findings to NABU, whose detectives began an investigation into Verbitsky under articles 368-5 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal enrichment) and article 368 (acceptance of offers, promises, or obtaining illegal benefits by officials).
The official financial status of Verbitsky, and especially Ilnitskaya, does not provide comprehensive answers to questions regarding their income sources and the funding of the charitable foundation. However, media report that Verbitsky's financial situation allows him to attend the elite sports club "Tsarsky," where he reportedly spends about 80 thousand hryvnias monthly.
