The elections in Ukraine will take place after the active phase of the war has ended and the state of martial law has been lifted.
President Volodymyr Zelensky stated this in an interview with British journalist Piers Morgan. While discussing his legitimacy, the politician reminded that he received 73% of the votes in the 2019 election. He asserts that he is always open to holding elections:
"Yes, there cannot be elections during wartime; legislation and the Constitution need to be amended. There are significant challenges. How will our military vote? How will people in occupied territories vote? How will the eight million Ukrainians abroad due to the war cast their ballots?"
Elections in Ukraine
As is known, the next parliamentary elections were supposed to take place on October 29, 2023, and the presidential elections on March 31, 2024. This did not occur due to the full-scale war.
We remind you that back in the fall of 2023, all political forces in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine agreed that elections would be held only after the end of martial law.
