The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, spoke with the current head of the White House, Joe Biden, on Friday, January 10. He announced this via Telegram.
Specifically, Zelensky discussed with Biden the details of the new U.S. sanctions package regarding Russian energy, "which helps Putin finance the war."
"It is very important that America has now targeted Russia's shadow tanker fleet and companies like 'Gazpromneft' and 'Surgetneftegaz,' which accumulate funds directly for Putin. He must feel the cost of his war by losing from his own pockets. I am grateful to America, to both parties, and both chambers of Congress for supporting fair pressure on Russia for its unprovoked and criminal aggression," emphasized the President of Ukraine.
He also thanked the U.S. President for supporting Ukraine, its independence, and for "consolidating the international community":
"Together we have created a global coalition of defenders of freedom and principles of international peace and security. ... We will definitely stand firm and achieve lasting peace for our people and country."
