As a result of a missile strike on a sanatorium in the town of Mariyno, Kursk region on November 20, a North Korean general was injured, and several officers of the DPRK army were killed. This was reported by the Financial Times, citing an unnamed Ukrainian official.
According to him, the strike on Mariyno was one of "several" aimed at North Koreans in the Kursk region over the past week. Ukrainian forces have been actively searching for the locations of the Koreans, who have been dispersed by the Russians, he added.
The identity of the general has not been disclosed, but Ukrainian intelligence previously reported that Pyongyang sent Colonel General Kim Chen Bok to oversee the special forces units of the "Storm Corps" stationed in Russia. It is unclear if he was injured in Mariyno.
According to senior officials in Kyiv, thousands of North Korean soldiers are currently stationed on the second line of defense in Russia, freeing up more Russian soldiers from the 50,000-strong group operating in the Kursk region for active combat.
Storm Shadow missile strike on the bunker in Mariyno
As reported by UNIAN, on November 20, the Armed Forces of Ukraine delivered a powerful strike with Storm Shadow missiles on an old estate in the Kursk region, where it is believed a deep bunker of governmental purpose is located. Analysts have suggested that generals from Russia, and possibly from North Korea, were in the bunker, as around a dozen scarce missiles were used on the target, and the bunker itself is a convenient location for the headquarters of Russian troops in Kursk.
The following day, The Wall Street Journal reported that a general of the DPRK army was injured in the bunker. This information was provided to journalists by an unnamed Western official.
