In Nikopol, the heart of an esteemed citizen of the city has stopped.

Georgy Gorbenko was an honorary citizen of Nikopol and a Distinguished Lawyer of Ukraine.

In Nikopol, honorary citizen of the city Georgiy Gorbenko passed away at the age of 85. This was reported in a statement from the Nikopol City Council, as conveyed by "Vidomo".

"With deep sadness, we announce that today, November 25, 2024, the honorary citizen of Nikopol, Honored Lawyer of Ukraine Georgiy Filippovich Gorbenko, who dedicated nearly 40 years to the law enforcement and judicial system, has passed away," – the statement reads.

Georgiy Gorbenko was born on October 12, 1939. He began his career in 1965 as a people's judge in the Lazovsky district of Kharkiv region.

In 1981, he became the prosecutor of the Nikopol district. He served in this position for over 5 years before being appointed as the prosecutor of the city of Nikopol, a role he held for more than 4 years. From 1991 to 2002, Georgiy Filippovich was the chairman of the Nikopol City Court.

After completing his work in the judicial system, Grigoriy Gorbenko continued his public activities, leading the Nikopol City Election Commission and the district election commission from 2002 to 2016.

In 2012, for his significant contribution to the establishment and effective implementation of the law enforcement system in the Dnipropetrovsk region, his active civic position, and high authority among the public, the Nikopol City Council awarded Georgiy Gorbenko the honorary title of "Honorary Citizen of the City of Nikopol." He was also awarded the Honorary Badge of the Nikopol City Council "Honor and Glory."

"Georgiy Filippovich Gorbenko left a significant mark in the history of our city and region. His dedication to his profession, principled stance, and humanity became a standard for many fellow citizens. The bright memory of him will remain in the hearts of all who had the honor of working with him and knowing him personally. Eternal memory!” – wrote the city council.
