The administration of the current President of the United States, Joe Biden, whose term ends in a few weeks, plans to announce a significant final aid package for Ukraine.

This information comes from Associated Press, citing two high-ranking Pentagon officials. The announcement of the new weapons package is expected to take place during U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin's visit to Germany on Thursday, January 9, where a meeting in the "Rammstein" format will occur.

Officials did not specify the exact amount of the new package. It is known that it will be "substantial" and will be drawn from existing stocks with the aim of delivering most of the promised weapons to Ukraine before Trump's inauguration.

At the same time, it is noted that this does not pertain to the full $4 billion remaining from the funding approved by the U.S. Congress for Ukraine. It is likely that "more than a couple of billion dollars" will remain, which Donald Trump's team will be able to allocate for support to Ukraine.

Austin's trip to the Rammstein airbase will mark his final meeting with the group he organized to support Ukraine following Russia's invasion in February 2022.

Together, these countries have provided over $126 billion for armaments, military training, and assistance. These packages include millions of ammunition, modern fighter jets, air defense systems, counter-drone systems, and tanks. It is noted that the U.S. has contributed $66 billion of this total.

U.S. Assistance to Ukraine: What You Might Have Missed

On December 30, 2024, U.S. President Joe Biden announced a new aid package for Ukraine amounting to nearly $2.5 billion. This package included military assistance of $1.25 billion taken from U.S. stocks and a $1.22 billion package from the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI).

At that time, the American leader's statement mentioned that the Pentagon was in the process of delivering hundreds of thousands of artillery shells, thousands of missiles, and hundreds of armored vehicles to strengthen Ukraine's position.
