Currently, preparations are underway for a meeting between the elected President of the United States Donald Trump and the Russian dictator Putin.

"He wants to meet, and we are making arrangements," Trump told reporters at his residence in Mar-a-Lago, Florida.

"Putin wants to meet. He has stated this publicly, and we need to put an end to this war," Trump emphasized.

However, he did not specify the date for such a meeting, notes Reuters.

Although the Kremlin has yet to respond to Trump's announcement, they previously indicated they would be happy to communicate with the new American president.

Trump and Putin Negotiations

Trump had previously suggested that negotiations with Putin could take place within six months of his taking office. The press secretary for the Russian dictator, Dmitry Peskov, stated yesterday that no requests for such a meeting had been received from the U.S. as of now.

Trump's return to the White House on January 20 has sparked hopes for a diplomatic resolution to the war in Ukraine, but it has also raised concerns in Kyiv that a quick peace agreement could come at a high cost to the country.

Trump's advisors have proposed plans to end the war, which include the cession of occupied Ukrainian territories to Russia.

Furthermore, it remains uncertain whether aid to Ukraine will continue at the same pace under Trump as it did under Biden.
