The White House has officially acknowledged for the first time that it has eased restrictions on strikes with American weapons on the territory of the Russian Federation.
John Kirby, the Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the White House National Security Council, announced during a briefing an "adjustment of instructions" regarding the ATACMS tactical missile system. The authorization pertains to targeting "specific types of objectives," as reported by Anadolu.
"They can now use ATACMS for self-defense in case of immediate necessity. And, of course, this is currently happening in the Kursk region. I would allow the Ukrainians to explain how they are using anti-tank guided missiles."
Ukraine Granted Permission to Strike Russia
It is worth noting that this month, media outlets reported that the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden has finally permitted Ukraine to strike ATACMS on Russian territory.
This information was later confirmed by the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, and the President of Lithuania, Gitanas Nausėda. According to Borrell, this concerns attacks within a 300-kilometer radius.
Russia has already reported several attacks involving American ATACMS and British Storm Shadow.
