This Sunday, February 2 (February 15 in the old style), Orthodox Christians and Greek Catholics in Ukraine celebrate one of the most important holidays — the Meeting of the Lord 2025. On this day, Christians remember the event described in the Gospel of Luke.
The Meeting occurs 40 days after the Nativity of Christ, when the infant Jesus was first brought to the Jerusalem temple. There, he was greeted by Simeon the God-Receiver, who recognized him as the Savior of the world. Interestingly, the word "meeting" translates from Church Slavonic as "encounter."
This day symbolizes the connection between the Old and New Testaments, reflecting the encounter of the ancient world with Christianity. The holiday is classified as one of the twelve major feasts, making it significant within the Christian tradition.

It is worth noting that there are quite a few holidays in the winter of 2025. Recently, "Telegraph" explained why in Ukraine Vodka Day is not celebrated on January 31.
