The Russian occupation forces have committed a new war crime on Ukrainian soil. In the Donetsk region, the enemy executed two captured soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General. It is noted that the incident occurred on January 3, 2024, near the village of Vremevka in the Volnovakha district. During the assault on Ukrainian positions, the occupiers captured two soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"The prisoners were taken out of the shelter under the aim of automatic weapons and shot at close range in the head. To ensure their death, the enemy fired several more shots," the OGP reported.
It is emphasized that the execution of prisoners of war is a serious violation of the Geneva Conventions and is classified as a grave international crime.
Under the procedural guidance of the Donetsk regional prosecutor's office, a pre-trial investigation has been initiated into the criminal proceedings regarding the war crime that resulted in loss of life (part 2 of article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The investigation is being conducted by the Main Directorate of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Currently, investigative actions are underway to establish all circumstances of the crime and the individuals involved in its commission.
