In the early morning, drones attacked the area of an oil refinery (NPP), a thermal power plant, and an oil depot in Volgograd.
Locals immediately reported explosions in the southern part of Volgograd. On social media, they mentioned that the explosion occurred in the Krasnoarmeysky district, where the "LUKOIL Volgogradneftepererabotka" refinery is located.
The Ukrainian Telegram channel Supernova even shared a video capturing the sound of a drone flying overhead followed by an explosion. The video was likely recorded by a local resident who identified their address, notably living just one and a half kilometers from the massive refinery.
According to BBC, this refinery spans several square kilometers and is surrounded by an industrial zone that includes a large oil depot, the Volgograd thermal power station, and several other enterprises.
It is worth noting that in 2024, Ukrainian drones attacked "LUKOIL Volgogradneftepererabotka" at least three times.
In the morning, Volgograd Governor Andrei Bocharov confirmed the drone strike on the refinery, asserting that only debris from one drone fell onto the plant. "As a result of the debris from one of the UAVs falling on the territory of the oil refinery, a fire broke out, which was promptly extinguished. One worker from the plant was hospitalized," Bocharov reported.
Additionally, a spokesperson for the Ukrainian Volunteer Army "South," Sergey Bratchuk, posted a video of a significant fire in Moscow on his Telegram. According to him, the fire occurred on the site of the former machine-building plant named after Chernyshev, where a hostel is currently located.
Strikes on Russian Refineries
Ukrainian military forces regularly target refineries located within the Russian Federation. For instance, on January 29, drones from the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense attacked the "Lukoil" oil depot in Kstovo, Nizhny Novgorod region. As reported by UNIAN sources in the GUR, the facility supporting the activities of Russian occupation forces was struck around midnight local time.
