At the end of 2024, the Lviv teams "Karpaty" and "Rukh" shocked the sports community by announcing their merger. Both clubs compete in the Ukrainian Premier League (UPL).

According to TaToTake, the agreement between the owners of "Karpaty" and "Rukh," Vladimir Matkivsky and Grigory Kozlovsky, respectively, cost the former about 15 million in currency. The "Green Lions" will receive the best players from their rivals for this sum.

Additionally, as per TaToTake, "Karpaty" will obtain a modern youth academy from "Rukh" for 10 years, along with monopolistic status in the Lviv region.

"Rukh" will focus on nurturing young players in its own academy and will not participate in the next UPL season. Meanwhile, "Karpaty," with an enhanced squad, seems poised to aim for medals in the Ukrainian championship. It is worth noting that "Rukh" will receive a percentage from the future sale of every graduate from the Yellow-Black academy by "Karpaty."

As a result of the first part of the UPL, "Karpaty" and "Rukh" are positioned 6th and 7th in the UPL standings. They trail the leader, Kyiv's "Dynamo," by 19 and 20 points, respectively.

Earlier, it was reported that a UPL player lost consciousness during a match. This incident occurred in the game between "Alexandria" and "LNZ."
