Travel to the ends of the earth for a low salary: the Ukrainian embassy in Ethiopia is hiring, but there's a catch.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has announced a vacancy for the position of "Third Secretary for Consular Affairs at the Embassy of Ukraine in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia." On the surface, it seems like a decent job, but there is one unpleasant detail: the monthly salary barely exceeds 15,000 hryvnias (approximately 350 US dollars).

On November 22, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that a competition had been announced for several vacancies, including the position of Third Secretary at the Embassy of Ukraine in Ethiopia. However, the announcement did not specify the salary amount.

Meanwhile, the contract states under the payment conditions in the "position salary" section that the monthly amount is set at 15,017 UAH — which is less than two minimum wages in Ukraine. This is about 350 US dollars. It should be noted that in Ethiopia, this is indeed two average salaries for an Ethiopian citizen. The Ukrainian embassy seems to be looking for a Ukrainian citizen nonetheless. Therefore, it is unclear who would agree to work literally at the edge of the world for such a meager salary.

However, not everything is as dire as it appears at first glance. It is mentioned that the employee in the position of Third Secretary is entitled to a salary supplement for rank and compensation payments for being on long-term assignment. However, one can only guess how much these amounts are.

Meanwhile, the building of the Russian consulate in Poznan, Poland, may be transferred to the Ukrainian diplomatic mission. Our diplomats have already sent an official note to the Polish side with the corresponding request.

Recently, former Foreign Minister of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba revealed that through diplomatic channels, body armor and drones for the Armed Forces of Ukraine were transported at the beginning of the full-scale war of Russia against Ukraine. He also discussed the common abuses that occur with these channels around the world.
