In one of the shelters in Dnipropetrovsk region, four seagulls reside, each with its own tragic story. These birds were rescued by compassionate locals who pulled them out of situations directly linked to fishing and human irresponsibility. Co-founder of the shelter, Yana Rusina, shared details about how the gulls came to her and the trials they endured. This was reported by "Vidomo" referencing "Suspilne Dnipro".
The oldest of the birds was rescued over six years ago by fishermen. She found herself in distress after her wing was torn by the blade of a boat motor.
"When we found her, there was a lot of blood. We wrapped her in a T-shirt soaked in blood. The bird was completely white, almost cold to the touch," recalls Yana.
It took considerable effort to save her: "We used vitamins, stimulants, and coagulants to stabilize her condition. She spent five days on oxygen." Unfortunately, it was not possible to restore the torn wing, and the full course of treatment lasted over a month.
"These birds are true fighters. Despite all the trials, they continue to live," adds Yana.
The shelter also has a second feathered resident who got into trouble three years ago. He was discovered by vacationers on the Dnipro embankment when he got entangled in fishing gear.

"He had a hook in his mouth, and his wing was broken. We don't know exactly how it happened, but it was very hot, and there were already maggots in the wound. We washed him for a long time," says Rusina.
Despite his critical condition, this gull turned out to be quite aggressive and bit, which posed an additional challenge for the shelter team.
1The youngest of the rescued was found this summer on the banks of the Dnipro.
"When she arrived, her wing was hanging only by a tendon, and the wound was severely infected," shares Yana.
2Thanks to the attention and care of the shelter staff, the bird began to recover and had a chance for survival, although her condition still requires constant monitoring and treatment.
Earlier, we reported that a wild animal has settled in a park in the Pobeda residential area, which has already become a local attraction.
