Residents of Kyiv are urging the government to lift the public transport halt during air raid alerts, as this leads to real collapses in the city. The current directive forces people to either pay excessively for taxis or spend a lot of time waiting for the threat to pass.
Co-founder of the NGO "Passengers of Kyiv," Aleksandr Grechko, shared this information during a broadcast of "Kyiv Time." According to him, in such situations, people also resort to private minibus services, which in turn creates new issues: unregistered cash transactions and tax evasion.
"If it weren't for the minibuses, the situation would be even worse. On one hand, it's good that they are operating, but on the other hand, the problem is that these are unregistered cash payments, the amounts of which are unknown and how they are distributed is also unclear. And, of course, there is a minimization of tax payments. On the flip side, municipal transport suffers because of this," he explained.
Grechko added that residents have already created around ten petitions requesting the cancellation of the transport halt during alerts.
Transport planning expert Dmitry Besspalov believes that the government is trying to evade responsibility for "incoming" attacks by halting transport during alerts.
In cities like Kharkiv or Dnipro, for instance, public transport operates seamlessly, even under bombardment.
Recall that earlier, "Telegraph" reported that the situation in Kyiv regarding transport collapse is serious, as people cannot reach work or school in the morning, and in the evening, they often cannot get home for hours if an alert sounds. Furthermore, due to constant transport issues and the lack of ability to leave on time and plan their schedules, people are literally under stress, leading to frequent disputes in transport waiting areas.
