Georgia will not engage in negotiations regarding EU membership until the end of 2028. This was stated by the country's Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, as reported by "Echo of the Caucasus."
According to him, Tbilisi will also reject any budget grants from the EU until the end of 2028.
"It is absolutely unacceptable to view integration into the European Union as charity that the EU must provide us. We see that European politicians and bureaucrats use allocated grants and loans as leverage against Georgia," the politician stated.
He emphasized that the end of 2028 is when Georgia will be ready, primarily economically, to begin negotiations for EU membership by 2030.
"Following Kobakhidze's statement, the President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili is holding urgent consultations with the diplomatic corps, and spontaneous protests have been announced in Tbilisi on social media," the publication writes.
