Many people make mistakes when writing the word "gram" in the genitive case (of whom/what?) in the Ukrainian language. The main confusion lies in whether it should be "gram" or "gramiv," or for example, "kilogram" or "kilogramiv."
The rules for writing this word were explained by linguist and textbook author Oleksandr Avramenko during the "Sніданок з 1+1" broadcast. According to him, this is a fairly common mistake. A survey conducted among residents of Kyiv confirmed this assertion, as the majority answered incorrectly.
"A typical mistake is the form '100 gram.' It is correct to say not 'sto gram,' but 'sto gramiv.' Similarly, it should not be 'p'yat' kilogram,' but 'p'yat' kilogramiv,'" he noted.
To maintain the clarity of your speech and correct spelling, it is essential to remember this rule — you must add "iv" at the end.
As a reminder, earlier "Telegraph" wrote about how to correctly write words with the particle "piv." Many get confused when writing "piv roku" or "pivroku," "piv'yabluka" or "piv yabluka," and so on. There are several specific simple rules to keep in mind.
