The war in Ukraine will not only conclude through military actions but also due to political resolution. The accession of Ukraine to NATO will be of fundamental importance. This statement was made by UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy in an interview with Le Monde.
"We all understand that this will end not just as a result of military actions on the ground, but also through political resolution… It is vital that Ukraine receives the necessary security guarantees and that Russian aggression is repelled. Here in Europe, we clearly understand that we cannot allow a situation where the war ends, and Russia returns again after some time. Therefore, this path (of Ukraine's accession - UNIAN) to NATO and these security guarantees will be fundamental," he stated.
In his opinion, Putin's threats towards Europeans, as well as the testing of a new ballistic missile on November 21, are signs of "desperation":
"Threatening escalatory and reckless statements from Russia, especially regarding nuclear threats, are part of Putin's strategy."
At the same time, Lammy assured that the UK will continue to support Ukraine.
"We are determined to put Ukraine in the strongest possible position as it enters this very tough winter of 2025," he said.
The minister expressed confidence that Ukraine will be able to withstand "this struggle until 2025."
The war in Ukraine - NATO's position
Recall that NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that the Alliance needs to change the trajectory of the war in Ukraine, and for this, it must "go further" in its support: "Our support for Ukraine has allowed them to continue the fight, but we need to go further to change the trajectory of the conflict."
Furthermore, it has been reported that the NATO Parliamentary Assembly adopted a resolution to assist Ukraine, which, in particular, provides for the provision of medium-range missiles to Kyiv (ranging from 1000 to 5,500 kilometers), including Tomahawk types.
