The Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, is heading to negotiate with the EU Energy Commissioner regarding compensation for losses amounting to nearly 1.5 billion euros, allegedly incurred by Kyiv after halting the transit of Russian gas.

Fico stated this on social media. "In Brussels, I will address the issue of how Zelensky is sabotaging the financial interests of Slovakia. President Zelensky is undermining Slovakia's and the EU's financial interests, despite the European Commission clearly stating in its official letter that nothing prevents Ukraine from continuing the transit," Fico expressed, labeling Zelensky as "ungrateful."

The Slovak politician elaborated that his country is losing one and a half billion euros due to the cessation of Russian gas transit through Ukraine. In his view, 500 million euros will be lost in transit fees, while another billion euros will stem from rising gas prices.

"For this American adventure of Zelensky, the entire EU will pay about 70 billion euros," Fico opined, adding that such a situation benefits the U.S., which will now be able to increase gas imports to Europe.

"I will do everything to wake him from his sweet slumber. Because we have a very serious problem worth tens of billions of euros. Neither Slovakia nor the EU is at war; we have no reason to tolerate Zelensky's adventures, especially considering the aid that Slovakia and the EU are providing to Ukraine," he stated.

Halting the Transit of Russian Gas

On the morning of January 1, the transportation of Russian gas across Ukrainian territory was halted in the interest of national security.

Previously, President Vladimir Zelensky warned that Ukraine would not continue the transit of Russian gas, claiming it was "billions on blood."

On December 27, Fico threatened that Slovakia would cease electricity supplies to Ukraine if it halted the transit of Russian gas through its territory.
