The President of the United States Donald Trump stated that he is having a "very serious" discussion with Russia about ending the war in Ukraine. He shared this information during comments to reporters in the Oval Office of the White House.

The politician promised that he would have a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"We will talk, and I think we might actually do something really important. We want to put an end to this war. This war would never have started if I had been president. We want to stop it because it is a terrible war," he said.

According to him, "millions of young people are dying, mostly on the front lines."

"Mostly they are soldiers, but many cities are heavily destroyed; they look like demolition sites. Meanwhile, the military is just shooting at each other. It is very flat terrain, and the only thing that can stop a bullet is a human body. If the numbers are to be believed, Russia has probably lost about 800,000 soldiers, while Ukraine has lost 600,000 or 700,000. This is a senseless situation, and it needs to be ended," Trump stated.

The American president emphasized his intention to end the war in Ukraine, adding:

"Therefore, I am prepared to do everything in my power to stop this war. We are already engaged in serious negotiations. They are planned and ongoing. We are having very important discussions aimed at ending this war by reaching an agreement with Russia."

He noted that the American leader is unwilling to send additional aid to Ukraine, let alone American troops; he also does not want to accept Ukraine into NATO.

According to the analyst, regarding the control of a potential ceasefire and the security of Ukraine – without which a truce would be meaningless – he believes this is a problem for Europe.
