Russians have almost completely occupied Kurakhovo in the Donetsk region. This is reported by the monitoring project DeepState.
It is noted that as of the end of January 6, there were a certain number of observation posts within Kurakhovo, particularly around the thermal power station. However, this does not significantly impact control over the city as a whole.
"Almost all of Kurakhovo is occupied by the enemy, and its retention by a few small groups is purely a political task. The city has become a base for the concentration of personnel for the enemy's further actions towards Dachne and southward. Moreover, the Russians are already redeploying some units to another area near Myrnohrad, where an increase in enemy attacks is expected," the report states.
Analysts emphasize that control over Kurakhovo provides the occupying Russian forces with numerous advantages for advancing westward. Meanwhile, the presence of Defense Forces there adds "only additional complexity to the units in that area."
"The rapid loss of the central part has severely affected the morale of the units stationed there, and the statements from spokespersons about 'control over the city' further demoralize them. Indeed, further actions stem not from the realities of the battlefield, but from the perspective of holding 'that wall' or 'that potato patch,'" DeepState added.
Fights for Kurakhovo
Russian occupying forces have been attempting to capture Kurakhovo in the Donetsk region for weeks. Recently, Russian propaganda spread information claiming that the city has been occupied.
At the same time, a representative of the Operational-Strategic Group of Troops "Khortytsia," Viktor Trehubov, stated that the situation in the city is dire, with a significant portion of it destroyed by the enemy.
"Ukrainian forces are holding the western part of the city, on its outskirts. They also maintain control over the Kurakhovo thermal power station, which is located in the city," he explained.
