Scientists warn of the activity of a massive sunspot: will there be magnetic storms?

A sunspot that is already twice the size of Earth has the potential to generate a powerful flare, which could lead to a geomagnetic storm.
Учёные сообщают о повышенной активности гигантского солнечного пятна: стоит ли ожидать магнитные бури?

A large sunspot, which at the end of last work week was twice the size of Earth, has turned to face our planet. Astrophysicists warn that it could lead to a geomagnetic storm.

Sunspot 3961 is one of the largest sunspots of the 25th solar cycle. After several days of significant growth, it has turned towards Earth and possesses a "beta-gamma-delta" magnetic field, containing energy for X-class flares, as reported by scientists from the space weather research site Spaceweather.

"A geo-effective explosion may occur soon,” they warn.

It’s important to note that flares are categorized based on their intensity. The smallest are called B-flares, followed by C-flares, then M-flares. The most powerful class of solar flares is X-flares.

Geomagnetic Storms on Earth from January 20-26

As stated in the Meteoagent forecast, which is based on satellite systems from NOAA, TESIS, and international meteorological laboratories worldwide, on Monday, January 20, a strong geomagnetic storm rated at 5 will persist on Earth. The following day, January 21, no "red" level geomagnetic fluctuations are expected.

Scientists predict that geomagnetic calm is anticipated from January 22 to 26.

Recall that earlier "Telegraph" reported that the weather in Ukraine is set to change dramatically. Meteorologists forecast that some regions should expect rain and frost, leading to icy conditions.
