How to properly charge your phone: key rules and myths.

A phone will last longer if it is charged correctly.
Как правильно заряжать телефон: ключевые рекомендации и распространенные мифы.

Many smartphone users overlook how they charge their devices, leading to numerous mistakes. Ultimately, this impacts the lifespan of their devices.

It's important to understand that today's lithium-ion and lithium-polymer batteries have a limited number of charge cycles after which their capacity diminishes. "Telegraph" aims to remind you of ways to extend the effective lifespan of your battery.

Firstly, lithium-ion batteries perform best when the charge level is between 20-80%. Anything below or above this range accelerates battery degradation.

For the same reason, it is not advisable to leave your phone charging overnight. Although modern phones come with overcharge protection, prolonged time in "trickle charge" mode can increase battery heat and reduce its lifespan.

Speaking of overheating—batteries do not tolerate extreme temperatures or sudden changes in temperature. Therefore, avoid leaving your phone in direct sunlight, near a heater, or in very cold environments. The ideal temperature range is considered to be between +10 to +30 degrees Celsius.

There are also several myths that still circulate:

  • Using your phone while charging is not as dangerous as commonly believed. However, running applications can increase overheating, which leads to a reduced battery lifespan. Therefore, while it is possible to use your phone during charging, it is not recommended;
  • It is unnecessary to completely drain your phone before charging. This practice was relevant for nickel-cadmium batteries, which are no longer in use;
  • Charging via USB from a computer does not actually harm the phone. However, it is less efficient.

As a reminder, "Telegraph" previously wrote about how to use your phone to protect the battery from the cold during winter.
