The current pace of mobilization in Ukraine does not even cover the ongoing losses, let alone increase the size of the armed forces. This was reported by "BBC Ukraine" citing its own sources in the General Staff.
"It shouldn't just be the elderly fighting. The question is how much longer we can stretch our existing mobilization resources," said the source, specifically commenting on the idea of lowering the mobilization age.
To offset losses and slightly replenish combat units, the Ukrainian command has optimized the army's structure. This has allowed for several thousand individuals to be freed up for participation in combat.
The Issue of Lowering the Mobilization Age
As reported by UNIAN, the U.S. urges Ukraine to lower the mobilization age and engage youth in the army. However, President Volodymyr Zelensky opposed lowering the mobilization age. He emphasized that the Ukrainian army lacks weapons, which are being delayed by partners, and that the shortage of arms cannot be compensated for by the youth of soldiers.
In response, U.S. State Department representative Matthew Miller stated that the U.S. is "ready to equip and train" Ukrainian soldiers who are mobilized by Ukraine.
