Peaceful negotiations between Ukraine and Russia may commence this winter. This was announced by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
He also revealed a series of planned meetings as Warsaw aims to play a leading role in ending the conflict, according to Reuters. Tusk stated that Poland will actively participate in any negotiations when it assumes the presidency of the European Union on January 1.
"I will have a series of discussions primarily concerning the situation beyond our eastern border," hinted the Polish Prime Minister.
"Our delegation will be responsible... for shaping the political agenda, possibly influencing how the situation develops during negotiations that could, although still uncertain, begin this winter," Tusk elaborated.
He announced a visit to Warsaw by French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday. The politicians are expected to discuss Macron's meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the new U.S. President Donald Trump.
Tusk also announced a visit to Warsaw by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The Polish Prime Minister specified that this would take place in the early days of Poland's presidency in the EU.
Tusk added that he remains in constant contact with Scandinavian and Baltic allies.
"I want Poland to be a country that not only participates but also sets the tone for decisions that must ensure security," said Tusk.
Negotiations to End the War in Ukraine
Yesterday, Zelensky expressed support for a diplomatic resolution to the war, and his latest comments indicate an increasing openness from Kyiv to negotiations. However, the Ukrainian president does not hide his disbelief in Putin's willingness to end the war.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin stated today that the war will continue until the goals set by Putin are achieved through military actions or negotiations.
