Since the beginning of 2024, Russian occupiers have executed at least 109 Ukrainian prisoners of war. These are officially confirmed cases.
"Only in 2024 has it been officially confirmed that the Russians shot 109 Ukrainian prisoners of war," said Dmitry Lubinets, the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada for Human Rights, during a telethon.
Additionally, during the previous years of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation, 177 cases of the execution of Ukrainian defenders by the occupiers have been recorded.
It is important to emphasize that the killing of prisoners of war is a serious violation of the Geneva Conventions and is classified as a grave international crime.
Execution of Ukrainian Prisoners of War
Russian terrorists continue to commit war crimes on Ukrainian soil. In November, information surfaced about the execution of Ukraine's defenders in the Pokrovsk direction.
According to law enforcement data, on November 13, 2024, the occupiers began an assault on the positions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces near the village of Petrovska in the Pokrovsk district. Five servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, having retreated, took refuge in a private house, which was subsequently surrounded by the enemy. The occupiers captured them and then executed them.
On November 10, 2024, during an assault on the defenses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near the village of Novodmytrivka in the Pokrovsk district, Russian military personnel captured two Ukrainian fighters. The occupiers forced the prisoners to undress and, at gunpoint, led them through a forested area, where they were shot.
Earlier, Ombudsman Dmitry Lubinets also reported that the Russians likely shot at least two unarmed Ukrainian prisoners of war at close range in Kursk Oblast.
