Politician Yevgeny Murayev, known for his pro-Russian views and affection for a terrorist state, has been charged with treason and is likely now enjoying a respite in "decaying" Europe. Before entering politics, Murayev relished a carefree childhood and youth.
The fugitive MP, facing up to 15 years in prison in Ukraine along with asset confiscation, hails from the city of Zmiev in the Kharkiv region. He was raised in a family of Soviet elite representatives.
Yevgeny Murayev's father, Vladimir Kuzmich Murayev, was an influential trade union leader, while his mother, Olga Alexeyevna Murayev, taught chemistry at the Kharkiv Institute of City Economy (now known as Bektetov KhNUG, which suffered significantly from enemy shelling in February 2023).
1The future traitor of the motherland lacked for nothing. After the collapse of the USSR, Murayev's father ventured into business and led the construction factory "Rapid" in Kharkiv. His successful parents provided him with a serene childhood and the status of a member of the local "golden youth."
2 3In the 1990s, Yevgeny began exploring the business world, and shortly thereafter transitioned into politics. His first step towards success was winning the election to the Kharkiv Regional Council in 2006, where he was elected as part of the oligarchic project "Veche." After Yanukovych won the presidential elections, Murayev secured the position of head of the Zmiev District State Administration, paving his way to the Verkhovna Rada.
4This was followed by his involvement with the "Party of Regions," the "Opposition Bloc" faction, and "Opposition Platform — For Life" (OPZZH). Subsequently, Murayev established the TV channel "OUR," which serves as a propaganda tool promoting Russian interests.
During broadcasts, the MP openly criticized the government and opposed Ukraine's accession to NATO. He repeatedly referred to the Euromaidan as a "coup d'état" and described the military actions in Donbas as a "civil conflict."
5On the eve of Russia's full-scale invasion, Yevgeny left Ukraine (according to other sources, in May 2022). At that time, British intelligence claimed that the occupiers planned to overthrow the Ukrainian government and appoint Murayev as the head of a quasi-state entity.
The last sighting of the pro-Russian politician was in Vienna, where his wife violated local laws. Earlier, "Telegraf" reported what is known about Yevgeny Murayev's wife, who has appeared multiple times in the Russian Federation.
